To set up global settings you should start Manager and connect to Engine. Select Tools-Settings menu in the main Manager window.
Global settings window has several tabs grouped into two clusters: Engine settings and Manager settings.
The following tabs contain Manager settings:
The following tabs contain Engine settings:
"Start Engine upon Windows start" - if the checkbox is set, Engine will automatically start when Windows starts. Backupper Professional starting parameters are set up on the "Account" tab; Backupper Standard can be started only after logging in Windows.
"Stop Engine if no Managers connected or automatic tasks pending" - this checkbox determines behavior of Engine when no automatic tasks have been scheduled and no Managers are connected. In fact, Engine is idle and performs no useful work. If the checkbox is set Engine will automatically stop instead of wasting computer resources.
"Do not start automatic backup if Engine is initialized at the call of a Manager". This checkbox disables automatic backup on schedule if a Manager connects to Engine to set up backup parameters. If the checkbox is set Engine will perform automatic backup only if it was launched at system startup with the very purpose of backup on schedule.
"Account" tab exists only in Backupper Professional. Backupper Standard can start only under current account.
| Note. This tab exists only in case that the Engine is running in Windows NT, Windows 200x or Windows XP. In Backupper Standard, the option "Start Engine..." is disabled and preset to "As Windows application", because Backupper Standard cannot run as a service. |
"Allow remote control of Engine". You cannot perform remote connection to Engine and setup backup parameters from another computer if the checkbox is not set.
"Automatically setup ZipMagic to avoid conflicts with Backupper". If the option is set Backupper will automatically detect installed ZipMagic and modify its settings to avoid problems during backup. If ZipMagic is not set up properly certain conflicts may appear.
"Limit the number of sections processed during a backup". This option allows to limit usage of computer resources during heavy backups (see also "Multitasking").
Note: Engine settings refer to the very Engine that Manager is connected to. If Manager is running on Computer1 and connects to Engine on Computer2 the settings will refer to the Engine on Computer2. To set up settings of local Engine you should perform local connection first (Manager menu Connection - Local connection).
