Section parameters: "Notifications" and "Mail transports" tabs
These pages allow you to setup notifications sent by Engine. They will appear only if Full mode was selected on the first page of the wizard.
Backupper Engine can send notifications of the following types:
e-mail via Message API,
Windows messages via Windows NT/2000/XP message service or WinPopup,
Windows NT/2000/XP EventLog records.
"Notifications" page has a list of events that trigger notification. You should set the checkbox to enable notification sending. Images at the bottom represent mail transport status: the gray image means the transport has not been set up; the red one means that the transport has been set up incorrectly; the green one - the transport has been set up correctly.
You can set up mail transport at the "Mail Transports" page. .
This page contains a number of controls for setting up notification parameters. To set parameters of a transport you should:
- Set the checkbox near the name of the transport. If checkbox is not set, no notofications will be sent via the corresponding transport, even if the transport is completely set up.
- Press "Settings..." button corresponding to the transport. A setup dialog will appear. The appearance of the dialog depends on the transport being set up.
MAPI parameters
Backupper has no built-in media for transferring notifications via mail. Thus, it uses external software for this purpose. Therefore, in order to let Backupper sent mail notifications, a mail system supporting Message API (MAPI) interface and profiles (e.g. MS Exchange, MS Outlook or MS Outlook Express) should be installed on the computer. The mail system should be set up, i.e.
- it should contain at least one mail profile;
- it should be set up to periodically send messages located in its Outbox folder.
The dialog for setting up MAPI parameters contains the following fields:
- "Mail profile". Select one of the MAPI profiles created on this computer. Remember that even in case of remote setup (i.e. if you set up Engine located on a remote computer) the list in this dialog contains only local MAPI profiles. Therefore, if remote MAPI profiles differ from the local ones, you should type profile name in the field instead of selecting it from the list.
- "Password". Specify the password for accessing selected MAPI profile. If no password is set for this profile, leave the field empty.
- "Recipients". Specify the list of recipients here. Add new recipient by typing its name in the editbox and clicking
. Click
to remove a recipient from the list.
- "Subject". Specify the subject for the notification message here.
When all parameters are set, press "ОК". To discard changes, press "Cancel".
Windows messages parameters
Backupper uses the following media for sending notifications of this type:
- in Windows NT/200x/XP: Windows messaging service (MailSlot);
- in Windows 98/ME: WinPopup application.
If you have questions regarding installation and setup of these systems, please consult your system administrator or Windows manual/help.
The dialog for setting up Windows message parameters contains the following fields:
- The list of computers which will receive notification messages.
Type computer name in the editbox and click
to add a computer to the list. Click
to remove a computer from the list. Use
for selecting computer name from the list of all computers available in your local area network.
- "Including local computer". Set this checkbox if you want messages to be sent to the local computer (i.e. the computer where Backupper Engine is running) as well.
Event log parameters
Recording into the EventLog is avaliable only if Engine is running under Windows NT/2000/XP. In other operating systems (Windows 98 and Windows ME) the "Notifications" tab has no "Windows log" column and some controls in the "Mail transport" tab are disabled.
The dialog for setting up Windows event log parameters looks similar to the dialog for setting up Windows message parameters. The difference is that the former one contains an additional checkbox named "Event type". You should select the event type to be set for the records that Backupper will add to the event log. The list of types is standard, you can leave the default type 'Information'.
