Principle of operation

After Backupper has been installed, you should run Manager to setup Backupper's global options and section parameters. You will always have the possibility to change these options and add/modify sections.

The principal working mode of the Backupper is automatic backup on specified schedule. Automatic backup is performed by Backupper's Engine. The usual scheme of the work is as follows:

  1. Engine is started at computer startup or Windows login, as specified in the program settings;
  2. Engine loads all existing sections;
  3. for every section which should be backed up automatically, Engine determines the time for creating backup for this section according to the section's schedule;
  4. Engine determines the nearest backup time;
  5. Engine 'goes to sleep' until this time comes;
  6. when the time for automatic backup comes, Engine 'awakes' and begings backing up the section(s) whose backup time came;
  7. after the backup is done, Engine returns to step 3.
Sometimes it happens that the backup time for a section has been passed when Engine is started. The most plausible reasons are the following: In this case the automatic backup will be started immediately at Engine startup.

Backupper Agent is started after Windows user login. After Agent's start it is minimized to an icon in the system tray.

Note. In order to let Agent start automatically after Windows login, Windows 'Startup' menu should contain Agent's link. This link is created automatically during Backupper installation process. If for some reason this link is absent, you can create it manually or set special checkbox in the Agent's context menu.

The icon shows Engine status:

During backup the icon is animated (shows several successive images).
